Rizos-Theodoros Chadoulis

The International GEO-Innovation Center is excited to welcome Rizos Theodoros Chadoulis, a visiting scholar from Greece. He is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki working towards his dissertation entitled ‘Signal Processing & Information Analysis for Environmental Monitoring’. He is a Research Assistant at the Center for Research and Technology Hellas and has worked on pre-symptomatic plant disease detection using hyper-spectral images of tobacco plants. He is advised by Dr. Ioannis Manakos (Principal Researcher, at CERTH) and Prof. Constantine Kotropoulos (Professor, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki).

As a Visiting Scholar at the University of Maryland, Rizos will be working with Dr. Maria Zubkova and Dr. Chris Justice on land cover and land use change in regions of conflict, particularly in Somalia. He will be using very high resolution (VHR) Planet imagery to produce ground truth data through visual interpretation. He hopes this work will lead to a paper and include it in his Ph.D. dissertation.

During his spare time Rizos is interested in engaging with the local community. He is also looking forward to visiting urban parks and museums in the Washington D.C. area during his stay at UMD.
